Guidid Reading Planning

In the past I have struggled with guided reading. Now that I am almost done with my course work for my Masters of ESL and Literacy, I have become more comfortable with running guided reading. There are few things I've created that I use to help my be a more efficient teacher.

This is an agreement that I talk about with my students before starting groups. In the past, I have had students who come to the group without their notebooks, something to write with, or even the book they are reading. At the beginning of the year, I let the students know what I expect them to be prepared with and what will happen if they don't (I think I created this in the middle of the year).

This is the lesson plan format that I use to plan each reading group. I created it because I couldn't find another form that allowed me to clearly plan each aspect of guided reading. I have adapted this form recently to include more under the focus and goals.

This is a form I use when I am doing informal running records or observing students reading independently during group. The different domains allow me to be specific in recoding the actions the students were performing while they were reading.

This is a recoding form I use for all my reading groups. It allows me to keep track of all the students in each group and how they are performing on the formal running records.

I am new to the blogging world and am attempting to create my own blog. For the past few weeks I have been blog hopping around to some amazing teaching blogs and wanted to try creating my own. So here's the scoop...I am an elementary education teacher in SE Wisconsin. I was working the past two years as an ESL teacher in my district and am finally going to have my own first grade classroom.
